Online music program keeps AMEB in tune
Music students will soon have access to innovative musical software to enable
them to sit the traditional Australian Music Examinations Board exams online.
General Manager of AMEB, Mr Bernard Depasquale said the new technological
generation of students was the driver behind the organisation's new direction.
"AMEB wants to continue to foster great musical talent in this country and our
new online examination product will offer many benefits for students and
teachers," said Mr Depasquale.
"The new product is web based so students who have access to the internet can
sit their exams from any location," he said.
AMEB is using Web Ed Development, a Queensland based company to create
the software.
The local company won the coveted contract based on their track record
developing musical software for Australian students.
The two companies have formed an online learning partnership and hope to
collaborate on a number of projects together.
Jon Adams, one of the principals of Web Ed Development says he started
designing the software to help music students embrace theory practice.
"I have taught music for many years and was frustrated with the lack of quality
online tools to learn and practice music," he said.
"If a student understands the theory, they play an instrument better and for
longer," says Mr Adams.
"We have always based our software on the AMEB syllabus as we secretly
hoped the organisation would move online," he said.
"By offering online exams, AMEB will be far ahead of many other educational
groups," said Mr Adams.
AMEB will offer online exams from next year and will commence testing in term 4
of this school year.
